At Platinum our commitment to sustainable practices is an ongoing and evolving process. We have dedicated ‘recycling stations’ within our rooms that provide a fantastic visual and physical guide for the children (educators and families alike). These stations are specially designed for children and are therefore at an age appropriate height to encourage independent use.
Our meal times are also utilised as an opportunity to educate children about a range of environmentally sustainable topics. These topics include: Where does our food come from? How does it get to our table? How and why do we need to divide our scraps? How do we consider waste minimisation? How do we respect our food? Where can our scraps go? How does this help our environment? We have worm farms at our campuses and encourage food scraps to be used as a means of feeding. We have veggie patches and at Randwick, have a purpose built rainwater pipe linked. The majority of lights are turned off when the room is not in use and during rest and relaxation times. We endeavour to reduce our carbon footprint through the predominant use of online avenues to communicate with families i.e. online updates, newsletters, sign and out, Storypark, website etc as an alternative to paper. We use recycled materials used in our craft area and other activity areas.
