Kindness Cards

Kindness Cards

Screen Shot 2016-08-26 at 7.15.25 pmToday we are excited to announce that we have expanded on our Kindness Program at Platinum with the introduction ofKindness Cards. These cards are inspired by the The Wake Up Project's Kindness Cards and Ellen TV. They are intended to be a means for you to perform random acts of kindness within your community. They can be used to simply buy someone a coffee, give an unexpected gift or provide a service to someone in need. Kindness is boundless and so is your imagination, so be creative and use these cards to share the love. We would love to hear about how you are using the cards, please feel free to share with us on Facebook or Storypark.

One of the reasons we love to express kindness so much at Platinum Pre School is because "Children develop a sense of belonging when they feel accepted, develop attachments and trust those who care for them. When children feel safe, secure and supported they grow in confidence to explore and learn" (quote from The Early Years Learning Framework).

Children who are supported to understand themselves in this positive way experience a sense of belonging that nurtures the development of self-esteem. Self-esteem is critical to children’s capacity to develop positive images about their abilities, interests and personal future.

One of the most important aspects of building positive and supportive relationships is simple kindness...

Feel free to pop into the pre school and pick up some Kindness Cards. Use these with your children and family members to develop their understanding of kindness and it's power to have positive effects on all who have it in their lives.
Be kind :-)

NAIDOC Week 2016

NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee. Its origins can be traced to the emergence of Aboriginal groups in the 1920′s which sought to increase awareness in the wider community of the status and treatment of Indigenous Australians.

NAIDOC Week is held in the first full week of July. It is a time to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, culture and achievements and is an opportunity to recognise the contributions that Indigenous Australians make to our country and our society. Helping our children to develop an understanding and respect for our Indigenous history is an important part of our program at Platinum.

At our Randwick campus we had an action packed NAIDOC Week with lots of exciting activities and experiences to help the children learn about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history and culture. The children loved painting with sticks and leaves with Miss Hancock, drawing symbols in the sand with Miss Morrow and using painted pebbles to make tracks with Mrs Vila. Yellow (our youngest group) group also made some beautifully decorated boomerangs, and we all sang traditional songs 'Taba Naba' and 'Innanay' at group times. (EYLF Outcome 2.2 Children respond to diversity with respect.)

We were also lucky enough to take a representative of each of the older groups to the NAIDOC Cafe on Tuesday in Coogee, which was a great experience for all involved. The children were really excited about going on the bus and then they enjoyed listening to an Aboriginal children's choir who came all the way from Mount Druit to sing at the event. A few of the other attendees commented on how wonderfully behaved our children were; they really did us proud! (EYLF Outcome 2.1 Children develop a sense of belonging to groups and communities and an understanding of the reciprocal rights and responsibilities necessary for active community participation.)

At our Prestons campus The children participated in a number of NAIDOC week activities in celebration of the week. They enjoyed making hand spray paintings, having discussions about how Indigenous people made paint in comparison to how it is made today, along other activities based on Aboriginal story telling, boomerang dot painting and learning to play the didgeridoo.
